dak-heritage-city1Step back in time and experience rural life as it was more than a century ago at Dakota City Heritage Village.

During the fair, Dakota City comes to life with costumed interpreters and activities of 100 years ago. Open to the public at no additional charge, Dakota City is a 1900 era rural village of twenty-two buildings, including a blacksmith shop, newspaper office, schoolhouse and millinery shop, representing the business and social center of a rural community.

You may also enjoy threshing demonstrations, depot or bank robberies, bucket brigade demonstrations, or roving musicians through the village. Visit the Ahlberg Heritage Center to see our new museum exhibits and agricultural displays. You won’t want to miss the Café in the Ahlberg Heritage Center for a selection of very enticing menu items.  Check out the Barn Door Store for candy, toys, and gifts. Fun for all ages can be had at  Dakota City Heritage Village. Come and see!

  • Stop for an ice cream cone or 1919 Root Beer
  • Enjoy the sights and smells of cooking in the Harris House
  • Vote in the Town Hall

Ryan, Dan P.

Dan Ryan, 48, of Farmington, died Friday, January 2, 2009, surrounded by family and friends.

Dan lost his three year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) but most assuredly won the war of life.

Dan was born December 19, 1960. Blessed with an unmatched work ethic and uncanny mechanical skills, Dan achieved and excelled in the family-run business of Genz-Ryan Plumbing and Heating and as founder of DPR Motorsports. Dan loved his mechanical trades business and his hobbies: racing, hunting, snowmobiling and of course Bud Light. Dan loved his family more than anything, without reservations.

A 1979 graduate of Rosemount High School, Dan was preceded in death by his friends John Strese and Roy Ruzicka, and his niece Chloe Boyum.

Dan is survived by wife of 28 years, Lisa (nee Boyum); children Alison Gilbertson (Troy), Jacob and Dan Jr; parents Jack and Margie Ryan and Gary and Connie Boyum; brothers Mike, Tom, Bob, Marc (Dianne) and Jon (Nicolle); grandson Tanner Gilbertson; brother-in-law Todd Boyum (Stephanie); and 15 nieces and nephews. Dan is also survived by legions of friends, associates, visitors and helpers that Lisa and the kids want to thank for their boundless love and devotion throughout Dan’s illness.

Visitation at Elko Speedway, Elko, Minn., Tuesday, 3-8 pm. Funeral 11 am Wednesday, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rosemount, Minn. Burial to follow. Lunch at Rosemount Community Center to follow.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, Dan’s family has set up a memorial fund, which will donate all funds received to “A Race Worth Winning – ALS“,  a non-profit organization set up by Dan’s closest friends and family members, with the sole purpose of supporting families who are dealing with the horrible effects of ALS. Donations made payable to: Dan Ryan Memorial Fund, c/o Vermillion State Bank, PO Box 28, Vermillion, MN 55085.

We shall never forget and will always love you.

Elko New Market Housing Affordability Index

The experts agree, now is the time to buy. With the decline in mortgage interest rates last month to the five percent range, and now dropping even more, getting a mortgage is completely affordable. On top of historically low mortgage interest rates, the ‘median sales price’ of home in the south metro area is about 20 percent less than this time last year. That is now the lowest since the last quarter of 2001!!! Those two factors combine to make an extremely attractive housing affordability index. According to the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors, the HAI (Housing Affordability Index) rose nearly 28 points from last December in the Elko New Market and Lakeville areas. That means the HAI is at 180, the highest point in the last 9 years.

When the HAI is up, that symbolizes a ‘good buy’ for buyers. Even though we have been experiencing a ‘buyers market’ for a couple years now, today is the best time to buy.  If you have been waiting for the perfect time to buy your new home, it is GO TIME. With a wide inventory in Elko New Market, Lakeville, Farmington and other areas of Scott and Dakota Counties, you will find just what meets your needs. Feel free to contact me at Nichole@NicholeFredrickson.com for more information.
